The Experience

When you sign up for Private One-on-one Makeup Lessons we ask that you bring along your own makeup and brushes. If you want to learn hair please bring along your hair tools and products. If you don’t have much to bring do not worry. Your beauty educator will have their full professional kit with them which you are welcome to use during the lesson. It is great to test out new products and tools! Your educator will show you how to use the products and tools that you already have, and advise on which products or tools would be a great addition to your makeup and hair kit to achieve the looks you learn in the lesson.

Private One-on-one Makeup Lessons are completely customizable to suit your skintone, hair type, styling needs and style preferences. Beauty products and routines are completely individual to each person. We all have different skin, different skin issues, different insecurities and different things that we like and don’t like. In your lesson you and your instructor will come up with a look custom to you.

We believe that hands on practise is by far the most efficient way to learn. In your Private One-on-one Makeup Lessons your instructor will demonstrate on themselves or on you, and have you follow along. Commonly your instructor will demonstrate on one side of your face and you will work on the other side of your face. Your beauty instructor will watch you closely so that they can correct your moves and motions as needed. Don’t worry about taking notes. Following the lesson your instructor will send you a custom step by step guide with products links.

Many students want to know where they can buy the products they used during their lesson. Many of the products come from places like Sephora and Mac. At our salon, Primp & Proper, we carry an amazing mineral makeup line from California called Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics. This line has been a favourite of our Founder, Faye Smith, for 15 years a growing. Protecting your skin is so important so using good quality cosmetics with good ingredients is key. We also retail affordable makeup brushes that you will get to use during your lesson. You are welcome to shop with us after your lesson while you have your instructor there with you to help select the right shades. There is absolutely no obligation to make a product purchase. Our lessons are very much focused on what you need out of it.
